Accessible Technology

Family Resource Training Center is governed by Eastern Washington University, and as such abides by the Accessibility Policies of EWU.

EWU is committed to diverse experiences and perspectives, strives to fully include everyone who engages with EWU. The result will be students, faculty, and staff working together, serving and strengthening our local, national, and global communities.

EWU is an equal opportunity, affirmative action institution. Following the Americans with Disabilities Act, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Washington State Anti-Discrimination Law, EWU requires that no qualified person will be denied access to, participation in, or the benefits of, any program or activity operated by the University because of disability.

Our offices of IT, Disability Support Services (DSS), and the Office of Equal Opportunity have worked with campus units for many years to make IT accessible to our campus community. However, now our commitment has been more formally stated with the Accessible Technology policy.

Admitted and prospective students, employees, applicants, and countless other visitors access EWU’s websites using a wide variety of technologies. To promote EWU’s mission of continuing to improve access, web content should be accessible to all members of our diverse audience. Accessible web content should be developed under the following guidelines and standards:

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C), provide recommendations for making web content more accessible. The guidelines suggest accessibility methods for a wide range of people with disabilities, including blindness and low vision, deafness and hearing loss, learning disabilities, cognitive limitations, limited movement, speech disabilities, and photosensitivity.
